About Us
Welcome to Parenting Rare! My name is M and I am a wife and mother of three kiddos. My oldest, Buster, has a rare disease called Moyamoya, which is a vascular disorder in the brain that causes the carotid arteries to collapse and results in strokes. Buster is six years old and had two strokes when he was nine months old, which caused mild cerebral palsy. My husband and I have two other children, Birdie and CJ, who are 4 year old twins. I am a former high school English teacher and I finally started this site after years of brushing aside the inner voice that was nudging me to blog. The blogging world is vast and I didn't think anyone would want to read my ideas; but I soon realized that as a Rare Parent, I had been looking for a community with an understanding of my unique experience. I am sure I am not the only one. Although our children may have different diagnoses, we all share a common bond and I am hopeful this site will offer parents and caregivers of children with rare diseases and complex medical needs a place of support and connection.
